Naoki Yoshida, the producer of the role-playing action game series Final Fantasy 16, made various statements about the game. He stated that this developed game will also hold the hands of inexperienced players.
In an interview with Famitsu, Yoshida stated that the traditional combat system included in previous Final Fantasy games will change. Instead, he said, there will be a transition to an action-based combat system similar to the Kingdom Hearts game.
Yoshida also acknowledged that not every Final Fantasy fan will be able to play the action games well. For this reason, he stated that the game will have two modes: Action-oriented mode and Story-oriented mode. Besides that, Yoshida said that players who are not good on the action side will also enjoy the story-oriented mode.
The story mode will not only reduce combat difficulty, but also provide players with a variety of accessibility features and a range of items to equip to make combat easier. The story content of both modes will be the same. In addition, the story mode will have a standard difficulty, not easy.
Final Fantasy XVI will debut for PlayStation 5 in the summer of 2023.
