Bruce Straley, who directed Uncharted 2: Among Thieves in Naughty Dog, where he started in 1999, shared the director’s chair with Neil Druckmann in The Last of Us;ta and once again revealed his vision in Uncharted 4: A Thief;s End, left the studio in 2017.
After a long period of silence, Straley announced the creation of his new game studio, Wildflower Interactive.
“When I left the industry in 2017, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to make games anymore,” says Straley.
“But as I got away from the industry, I started to think more about it, thinking about everything that needed to be done and everything I wanted to do. And that idea haunted me. I took a few friends with me and we started thinking about prototypes. The idea began to get better and better. It started to get exciting. And I realized that I had to make this game.
But if I was going to make this game, I had to form a team for myself. And if I was going to form a team, I had to build a company for it. Well, if we’re going to do it, we have to do it right, right? It should be a place that includes everyone, is fair and based on collaborative work. It’s a place full of big-hearted people who want to grow both professionally and personally.”
Straley says the studio will focus on making small-scale, creative, uniquely stylized games. Currently, all positions are based on remote work, and the studio is looking for employees for a large number of positions as well.
