Microsoft announced this week that it would buy Activision Blizzard in a $68.7 billion deal, making it the biggest acquisition in gaming history. In this context, many major game series, such as Call of Duty, will be incorporated into Microsoft.
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said he was excited to work on IPs owned by Activision Blizzard. Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said he was excited to work under Microsoft and be offered new opportunities. In addition, he said he wanted to make a new Guitar Hero and Skylander game.
After all, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that senior employees want to remove the Call of Duty series from the annual program. If these discussions are concluded, no more New Call of Duty games will be released every year.
Schreier added: “Many Call of Duty developers are discussing the game’s departure from the annual program. This will both please the teams and strengthen the franchise. If there is a change, this program will be activated in 2023.”
