Nexus Mods, one of the largest mod sites in the world, announced that it will soon come up with major changes. These changes will both make it easier for mod makers to make money, and will come with innovations that will allow even average users to set up multiple modes comfortably.
Starting in August, mod makers will not be able to “permanently” delete the modes they have installed on the system, they will be able to “archive” them if they wish, and these modes can only be downloaded by regular users under certain conditions. This feature has faced a backlash from mod makers, let me mention that from the front.
One of these conditions is the Mod Collection system. Nexus originally announced this system in 2019, and it has been under work ever since. Collections will soon begin external testing.
The purpose of the Mod Collection is to prepare compatible mode packages for games, so that users do not need to think about questions such as “is that mode compatible with others, how should I install it in what order, what mode should I find”. This is a system that will work especially well in games where we use dozens of different modes, such as Skyrim and Thr Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Here are the “archived” modes that we just mentioned will continue to be included in the collections so that a deleted mode does not cause incompatibility with others.
The collection system will not be exclusive to Premium users and will be available to everyone for free.
