Niantic has announced the acquisition of web-based augmented reality developer 8th Wall.
Founded in 2019, 8th Wall served as an augmented reality development platform for creators on PC, mobile and AR/VR devices.
The developer said it would remain a separate entity and niantic would join the AR engineer organization.
“There is a lot of potential for web-based augmented reality, and we will continue to bring it out through the lens of Niantic’s real-world AR universe,” said Erik Murphy-Chutorian, CEO and founder of 8th Wall.
