Nintendo has officially acquired one of its long-standing development partners.
Tokyo-based SRD Co. Ltd. will be all owned by Nintendo and the deal is expected to be completed on April 1, 2022. No amount has been disclosed.
The company is run by Toshihiko Nakago and has been working with Nintendo for nearly four decades.
SRD helped program and develop first-party games, from Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr to NES versions, as well as games such as Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda.
According to the official announcement, the acquisition will have “the power to serve the SRD’s management base and ensure the availability of software development resources for Nintendo.”
