Nintendo announced hardware and software sales in the six months ending September 30. Accordingly, 8.3 million more Switches have been sold in the last 6 months and the total number of Switches sold to date has reached 92.87 million. If this continues at this rate (which the new Switch OLED will continue to contribute to sales), we can say that in the next six months, the Nintendo Switch will be one of the few consoles to surpass 100 million sales.
To date, there have been 4 consoles in the home console category exceeding 100 million. The PlayStation 2 remains in the lead with sales of more than 155 million, while playstation 4, PlayStation 1 and Wii are ranked behind them.
Nintendo also said sales in the six months were $6.73 billion, while net profit rose to $1.86 billion from last year.
The Company’s estimated Switch sales figure for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022, was updated from 25.5 million to 24 million, due to a never-ending chip shortage.
When we look at the software part of the business, we see that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has outperformed Mario Kart Wii in sales and the Switch has become the best-selling game to date.
