Nexus Mods’ policy change caused unease among mod makers. Nexus Mods said that files uploaded to the site will no longer be allowed to be deleted because the upcoming collections feature will offer compatible modes in a package, and if a mode is deleted, there will be problems with other modes that require that mode. Mod makers will be able to archive their files instead of deleting them, meaning that while these modes alone will not be available for download from the site, they will be accessible through collections.
Nexus Mods pointed to August 5th for the change and announced that it would meet file deletion requests before that date. Arthmoor, maker of popular modes such as Alternate Start – Live Another Life (a mod that has been downloaded more than 8 million times), Open Cities, Ars Metallica – Smithing Enhancement, The Paarthurnax Dilemma, is among those who have requested that all their modes be deleted from the site. He even wanted the mods he made for Oblivion and Morrowind deleted.
Arthmoor will share its modes only through AFK Mods, which allows mod deletion after that.
“I hope that the efforts of various parties to open sites that respect the right of mod makers to delete their own content will succeed and the competition we need in this area will be formed,” says Arthmoor.
It is not known how many producers have requested mod deletion, but we can expect a significant decrease in the number of modes on the Nexus Mods in the coming days.
