Following Valve’s recent decision against apps such as cryptocurrency, a group of 29 NFT developers and digital activists have asked Valve to reverse its decision.
“Considering Steam’s vision of being a pioneer in every event, we want you to give this rapidly evolving technology a chance,” the group said in an open letter to Valve. Valve recently announced a ban on all games “containing NFT or cryptocurrency trading”.
NFT developers cicited in-game weapons as examples in Counter Strike
Valve’s ban is not the first of its bans against the Cryptocurrency/NFT system. China, which took the heaviest decision on this issue, declared the use of cryptocurrency illegal. However, NFT developers who have written to Valve point out that the logic of “buying digital products with real money” does not start with NFT, and that there are games on Steam that work with this logic.
The clearest example that cryptocurrency developers give Valve is actually a system that we all know well: items sold for real money in Counter-Strike. Cryptocurrency developers are showing similar examples, reminding that Valve is one of the leading brands of in-game goods trading, and demanding that this system, which they say is the technology of the future, be allowed again on Steam.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said a day after Valve announced the blockchain ban that Epic Games would enthusiastically embrace the new technology if games with blockchain technology were lawful and came with an age limit.
