According to new leaks, Overwatch 2 will not be released later this year and will run until 2023.
Overwatch publisher Metro says it has heard from several people close to the Overwatch 2 source that the game’s development process is taking more time than expected, and that 2022 is unlikely as far as it has learned. Metro also mentioned overwatch 2’s goal of getting it done this spring, but we’re already past spring. Moreover, we have not received an update on the status of the game for several months.
Aside from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Overwatch 2 team is also experiencing difficulties stemming from the Activision Blizzard case, and the departure of the game’s director, Jeff Kaplan, from Blizzard, has not been a positive development for the team.
Blizzard said it would not hold BlizzCon this year, and the event would be held in 2022. So there’s no event this year where we can learn about the course of the game.
