Aaron Keller of Blizzard Entertainment announced that Overwatch has acquired 10 million players in 2020.
Thus, the total number of players in the game exceeded 60 million.
The last playable character Echo was added to Overwatch in April 2020. Since then, no new playable characters or game modes have arrived, except for some in-game events and missions. Blizzard Entertainment has turned its focus to Overwatch 2.
When Overwatch 2 comes out, the characters and maps that came with the new game will be added to the first game. All players will be able to play together.
The Overwatch director has left Blizzard Entertainment in recent weeks and Aaron Keller is now directing Overwatch 2.
