Blizzard introduced Overwatch’s cross-platform system after promising the feature would come earlier this month. This feature will allow players to play with each other on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC. Console players will need to create a Battle.net account and link it to their game account in order to use the cross-game feature.
“By default, a group of console players will play with other console players,” game director Aaron Keller said in a video announcing the cross-game feature earlier this month.
Blizzard released a comprehensive FAI earlier this month explaining how the cross-game will work. Progress will not be moved between platforms, and statistics and ranks will not be reset. According to Keller, cross-game will not work in Competitive modes due to the natural advantage of aiming with the keyboard and mouse. However, console players will be able to play Competitive modes with each other. This means that PC and console players will not match in competitive mode.
To celebrate the launch of the cross-game feature, Blizzard reported that anyone who logs into Overwatch during the year will receive a free Gold loot box.
