Pandemic was quietly removed from sale on Steam on January 6. Now other digital outlets will follow. The game’s publisher, Asmodee, made the incident even more mysterious by not saying why, and his only explanation was “for a number of reasons we cannot explain.”
The game’s Steam page reads “Pandemic: The Board Game is no longer sold on Steam at the publisher’s request.” Mobile versions of the game have also been removed from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. If you have already purchased the game, of course you will be able to continue playing it, but new players will not be able to buy the game.
In an email, Asmodee said,We’ve worked pretty Pandemic for 4 years, and it wasn’t an easy decision to pull the game out of stores. For now, only PC, App Store and Google Play versions have been removed. The Microsoft version will be removed on January 31st and the Nintendo Switch version will be removed in July 2022.”
All information about the game has also been deleted from the publisher’s website. Asmodee was able to make the situation mysterious by saying he couldn’t explain his motives.
