Pedro Pascal, who gained huge popularity for his lead role in The Mandalorian, will play joel, another lead in the highly anticipated series The Last of Us. Pascal gave an interview to GQ about his preparation for the show and said he didn’t want his performance on the show to be an imitation of Joel.
Pascal, who said he was not talented enough to play the game, instead chose to watch his nephew play the game.
“I watched the game for as long as I could that day, but then I had to leave to go to Florida. I think Joel is an extremely impressive character – the game is also a very visually impressive experience. But then I was worried if I’d fake it too much. This may be the right choice in some cases and an error in others. So I wanted to put a healthy distance between the game and the search, so it’s more in the hands of Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann,” pascal says.
Pascal also said the show may not follow a one-on-one game: “It’s as important for the experience of video gameplay as it is to preserve what’s considered iconic, as well as to add things that viewers don’t expect. There are aspects you can expect and not expect to go… I can say that they are doing a very smart job in this regard.”
HBO said the show won’t be in time for this year, meaning we’ll be able to watch The Last of Us in 2023 at the earliest.
