With Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a large number of studios and gaming IPs will be in Microsoft’s hands. While the most frequently asked question these days is whether Call of Duty will be Xbox-specific, the Activision Blizzard catalogue isn’t just Call of Duty.
The other day we gave you a list of games that have been switched to Microsoft with this purchase, you can look atthis beautiful list here .
Phil Spencer thought about what came to mind when I was writing that list, and he also touched on Activision’s old plays. “I was looking at the IP list… King;s Quest, Guitar Hero… I should know that, but I think there’s even Hexen.”
Spencer is also closely involved with Activision Blizzard’s old catalogue. Not only is it one of Raven Software’s most famous games, like Hexen, but the Sierra brand is now in Microsoft’s hands. They have a chance to resurrect great series like King;s Quest, Police Quest. Toys for Bob crash bandicoot, radical entertainment prototype, there are a lot of opportunities like this right now.
“I hope that when this deal is completed, we will sit down with these studios and talk about allocating resources to work on games that I loved as a child and that the teams wanted to return to. I’m looking forward to starting these conversations,” Spencer said.
In recent years, Activision has focused solely on “billion-dollar” series, with almost all of its resources devoted to Call of Duty. I think having a broader vision of Phil Spencer will be better for the game world.
