As of yesterday, Microsoft announced it would buy Activision Blizzard in a $68.7 billion deal. When the deal closes in fiscal year 2023, the number of first-party Xbox studios will rise from 23 to 32. IPs that will be owned by Microsoft upon completion of the acquisition include Call of Duty, Warcraft, Candy Crush, Tony Hawk, Diablo, Overwatch, Spyro, Hearthstone, Guitar Hero, Crash Bandicoot, StarCraft and more.
Following the acquisition, a large number began to wonder what would happen to Activision Blizzard games coming to PlayStation consoles in the future. In an interview with Bloomberg, Xbox president Phil Spencer said Microsoft’s goal is not to move gaming communities away from PlayStation consoles.
Phil Spencer added: “We will continue to stream some of Activision Blizzard’s games on PlayStation consoles. However, we will make some games exclusive to Xbox consoles.”
