PlatinumGames CEO Atsushi Inaba said in an interview with VGC that the studio, which is also developing Bayonetta, is keen to participate in future acquisition talks. Inaba’s only condition is to guarantee their independence and freedom.
The time for PlatinumGames to make this statement is also interesting. Just recently, Inaba and her vice president, Hideki Kamiya, brought up Scalebound once again and said they wanted to have a decent conversation with Microsoft about it. Scalebound, which was developed in 2013, was a release game in 2017, but was canceled by Microsoft earlier that year.
On top of that explanation, I wonder if PlatinumGames is winking at Microsoft.
As a result, Microsoft also emphasized independence while acquiring Activion Blizzard for $70 billion and tying Bethesda studios to $7 billion.
“The most important thing for us is to be free to make the games we want to make. Judging by what I’ve heard about recent acquisitions, I don’t think Microsoft will start micromanasing activision that will take away its freedom… I don’t think it’s going to be that kind of relationship. I think there’s going to be a lot of mutual respect there and Activision will continue to do what it does best. That’s the most important thing for us, too. So I would not turn down such an offer if our freedom was respected.”
You heard it, didn’t you, Microsoft? Your next purchase has come to you 🙂
