New and high-end gaming devices such as PS5 and Xbox Series X have struggled to keep up with demand since the pandemic due to a lack of components around the world. But according to statistics, the PS5 would probably have sold more if there had been no production woes.
Sony says PlayStation 5 has sold 20 million units
Veronica Rogers, Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Business Operations at Sony, said in a statement: “We are excited to share that Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has sold more than 20 million PlayStation 5 consoles worldwide.” “Since the launch of the PS5, our teams have worked tirelessly to deliver a game console that has won the sympathy of the world. Therefore, we would like to thank those who supported us for their support.”
“What drives us and inspires us to develop new technologies, design the future of gaming, and continue to create the best thing to play is your passion for the PlayStation brand,” Rogers said, thanking those who supported the Sony brand.
Sales figures were down from last year
Sony said it expects to sell 56% more PS5s in its current fiscal year than in the previous period, which it said would not meet current demand. Sony, which announced the sales figure as 19.3 million in its report last month, also said that it experienced a decrease of 1.3 million compared to the first quarter of 2021, the previous year.
The PlayStation 5 continues to be a sought-after product due to the rapid depletion of stock and the fact that it has rare stocks. While the second-hand market of the product has calmed down compared to 2021, many people continue to buy from individuals over their retail sales.
