Both Sony and Microsoft have achieved significant success with their next-generation consoles, and both consoles continue to receive great attention. As we come to the end of April, the companies have started to disclose their financial reports and these reports also include important sales data. One of them is Sony.
The PlayStation 5 has sold 7.8 million units as of March 31. The number of PlayStation 5s sold in the last quarter alone is 3.3 million. Considering that the PlayStation 4 sold 7.6 million over the same time period, the high demand for the PS5 is clearer.
As you know, there’s a shortage of stock all over the world. If you want to buy a PlayStation 5 right now, it’s hard to find. If supply were able to meet demand, we would be talking about a much higher number of PS5 sales today than 7.8 million.
On the gaming side, a total of 338.9 million games were sold (boxed and digitally) on PS4 and PS5 in the past financial year. 65% (220 million) of these sales were digital. Last year, it was 53%. PlayStation’s first-party games sold 58.4 million.
The number of PlayStation Plus subscribers was announced as 47.6 million, sony increased the number of subscribers by 6 million in one year.
This year was also the best year for Sony’s Gaming & Network segment, reporting revenue of $24.4 billion and operating profit of $3.15 billion.
