Sony announced 3.9 million PlayStation 5s sold in the third quarter of the fiscal year, bringing the total number of PS5s sold to 17.3 million. In fact, these are the number of products Sony sends for sale, but it’s not everywhere, so it’s easy to say that number is also the number of sales.
Sony sold 4.5 million PlayStation 5s in the same period last year.
The February 2022 report says that sales were lower than expected because of shortages in the supply of components, especially semiconductors.
The PlayStation 4 sold approximately 20.2 million in the same period. Without the ongoing component crisis around the world, PS5 sales would probably outpace PS4;
Sony also announced that the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers has reached 48 million by the end of 2021. Last year, that number was around 47.4 million.
