As it is known, for a long time the PS5 has been very difficult to find and has fallen on the black market. But if you want to buy a PS5 this year, it might be the right time. Sony has said it wants to sell more consoles this year, following the latest sales figures. This gives the impression that the supply and chip problem has been overcome on the Sony front.
However, there is no definitive information on this issue yet. The company sold a total of 19.3 million PS5s and announced plans to sell another 18 million PS5 consoles by March 31, 2023. Sony said the number was based on its “current visibility into the supply of parts.”
It may be easier to find PS5s on shelves this year
Sony reached sales of 11.5 million PS5 consoles in its fiscal year ended March 31, 2022. In the current financial year, Sony estimates it will sell 60% more consoles. For the company, which sold 2 million PS5s in the last quarter of 2022, 18 million console sales mean 4.5 million PS5 sales per quarter. If these figures are realized, it will be the same as october-December 2020, the best quarter of the PS5 ever.
In general, people agree that the supply problem will continue until 2024. Sony CFO Hikori Totoki suggested that Sony felt very comfortable getting to this point. At the same time, he underlined that demand can still outstrip supply. Totoki:
“We don’t feel worried about meeting the sales of 18 million consoles. However, our estimates are that demand will be higher than this figure, and we still have shortcomings in meeting this demand.”
