ResetEra, one of the largest gaming forums in the world, was acquired by MOBA Network for $4.55 million. Despite this purchase, no changes were made to the operation of the forums or moderation teams.
Of the $3.55 million will be made upfront, the remaining $1 million will be paid by the new year.
ResetEra forums were run with ad revenue, and subscribers could turn off ads. ResetEra made $700,000 from these ads last year. MOBA Network now aims to use new ad formats in forums and increase the revenue of direct ad sales.
ResetEra has about 55,000 members and more than 45 million forum messages in total.
MOBA Network is the owner of the Union for Gamers (UFG) YouTube network, which includes sites such as Mobafire.com, Dotafire.com, Smitefire.com, Owfire.com, Leaguespy.net, and more than 1,000 creators.
