We have to give our rights, we are one of the most successful countries in the world when it comes to voiceover. Likewise, we have so many examples that go above even the original voiceover of the film and make us watch the dubbed version: Rocky, Rambo, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Ice Age, Asterix and many others whose voices echo right in our ears. Unfortunately, we lost one of the greatest masters of our successful voice-over art, Sezai Aydin, on December 20, 2021.
I’d like to go a little personal, because what I’m about to say won’t be too personal for all the ’90s kids like me: Sezai Aydin is Rocky who punches the door saying, “Yes, my house smells, my house sucks!” “I’m here, sir!” says Yogi the bear. Sezai Aydin is the voice of my childhood, the man who made me a fan of Sylvester Stallone.

I honestly think some people are sent into the world to play certain roles. Sezai Aydin was an artist who was sent to earth with this mission. He was a man who managed to capture the tone of the original voices of all the characters I mentioned above, who could scream and cry and sing with those voices. Perhaps he owed it to his theatrical origins to get into the roles he dubbed so well. He worked as an artist in Aydin City Theatres for many years and also appeared in many plays, films and series. He was a member of the first dubbing team established at TRT in the 1970s. When he was performing Rocky and Rambo, he was as tired as they were, and that was reflected in his voice. Even the legendary Bill Cosby voiceover was his own interpretation.
I’m afraid he’s a little disgruntled with us, master. The value given to the art of voice-over was diminished because he resented it so much. Especially for DVDs and Blurays, dubbings were done abruptly without art management to make them cheap, resulting in some pretty sloppy work. “I made money from the theater without voice-over, and I wouldn’t betray it. I never forgot to voice it,” he said. But he wasn’t given the value he valued for his work, so he said it got cold.
Undoubtedly, Sezai Aydin, one of the greatest masters of the art of voice-over, was an unforgettable voice that had been in our lives. With his passing, it’s as if another voice from all of our childhoods and heroes has gone. It really hurts to know that we’re growing up like this.
