I’ll be honest with you. I haven’t had much tolerance for such heavy, depressing things lately. I don’t think you’re going to ask why, so it’s all known. We don’t look at a very welcoming world when we take our heads out the window anyway. Which I think for a long time, a lot of us have been looking for escape. in games, movies, series…
Dating at a time like this seemed like a big risk to Sweet Tooth, a post-apocalyptic pandemic story, but apparently I wasn’t quite right. It’s already in Netflix’s Top 10. He deserves his place. But why?
Let’s get the napkins ready.
Sweet Tooth is a comic book adaptation, but even if you’re not interested in the series, in which Jeff Lemire is both a writer and an illustrator, it’s too short to enter the world of Sweet Tooth. The first episode really does a great job of promoting the world of the show.
And of course it all starts with a pandemic.
With the emergence of a deadly virus called H5G9, half-human, half-animal, hybrid babies begin to be born almost simultaneously. Of course, we don’t need binoculars to see where this ends up. A father who wants to protect his hybrid child from this discrimination is running into a cabin in the woods with his baby, who is half deer. But Gus’s story doesn’t start here.
Of course, it’s impossible to hide forever. As he grows older, his questions about the outside world, his mother and other people grow, and Gus’s story begins with hunters catching and selling half-animal people.
Gus, who uncovered some of the secrets his father kept while he was trying to live alone in the cabin, sets out in the hope of going after a hunter named Jepperd and finding his mother.
You don’t even have a mask, you’re all dead!!
Watching another pandemic story in the middle of a pandemic, especially a post-apocalyptic pandemic story, may not be for everyone. To be honest, I haven’t had a hard time either. Sweet Tooth sometimes takes the story too slow. On the one hand, of course, both on the Gus side and on the looking for a cure for the H5G9 virus, we follow several different stories at once.
I mean, he might not be opening everyone, I get it.
But that doesn’t change the fact that Sweet Tooth is a successful production.
Apparently, a few things have been changed compared to comics, but it’s worth adding that the writer Jeff Lemire is also involved in the project. Sweet Tooth, which was also highly rated by fans of the original story.
Yes, it’s dark, but the young characters played by young actors add a lightness to the show. Especially Christian Convery, who plays Gus, and Nonso Anozie, who plays Jepperd, have very good acting and interactions on stage. I feel a Mando and Baby Yoda breezes.
The natural beauty of New Zealand, where the show was filmed, also played a big part in balancing the series, which might otherwise have been very dark.
Netflix has been releasing strong adaptations lately. Sweet Tooth is one of them. If you don’t mind a little sprain, I suggest you definitely give it a shot.
Note: 4/5
Editor’s Note: It was worth crying about. (Or am I too watery?)
