Riot Games has announced that it will not hold its annual All-Star event for League of Legends this year. It was explained that the biggest factor in making this decision was the travel restrictions caused by COVID-19.
Announcement via the official electronic sports website League of Legends;
“Although we are pleased with the success of the Mid-Season Tournament and the World Championship, after considering it thoroughly, we decided not to hold the All-Star Event due to travel restrictions caused by COVID-19. We are aware that many fans and players around the world want to close the LoL Esports season with the All-Star Event, and we thought a lot before we made that decision. There were a number of travel requirements applied to professional players and employees to ensure the health and safety of everyone attending our events this year.
In addition to the restrictions stipulated by the countries where travel begins and ends, we had strict rules for everyone coming to our tournament venues and broadcast studios. These safety and travel rules make a three-day All-Star Event very difficult. For example, due to the pre- and post-event quarantine requirements for the All-Star Event, participants will have to be quarantined for longer than they participate in the event. In addition, there will be an unfairly short break for participants and employees attending both the World Championship and the All-Star Event, as there are many teams that meet the quarantine requirements after the World Championships.”
