It will be riot games’ first World Championship in North America in multiple countries, and will be held in Mexico and Canada for the first time in its history.
The developments were announced at a press conference before a game between Toronto, where the semifinals will take place, and San Francisco’s NBA teams, the Raptors and Warriors, where the final will take place. Participants announced Riot’s plan to “chart North America.” The final two stops of the tour include Scotiabank Arena, home of the Toronto Raptors, and the Chase Center, home of the six-time NBA champion Golden State Warriors.
The 2022 World Championship venues include Mexico City, home of the LoL Esports Liga Latinoamerica (LLA), and both the group stage and quarterfinals will be played at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden after qualifying in Mexico City.
“Since the last time we held the World Championship in America in 2016, the momentum behind League of Legends has grown steadily. We very much want to bring our global sport back to North America in full and welcome fans to the stadiums and stands of four cities in three countries if COVID-19 permits,” said Naz Aletaha, Global Leader of LoL Esports.
“The World Championship is an event that showcases the best players and teams in our sport. We look forward to sharing this with fans in North America and the rest of the world.”
The Chase Center, home of the Golden Guardians in lol esports’ North American league LCS, opened in 2019. An award-winning sports and entertainment arena with a capacity of 18,064 spectators. In addition to its support for NBA games hosted by the Golden State Warriors, it also features a variety of concerts, conventions and other large-scale events.
The Chase Center will be the tenth arena to host a World Series Final so far. Locations and venues hosting the World Championship Final include the Laugardalshöll Sports Centre (2021) in Reykjavik, Iceland, the SAIC Motor Pudong Arena (2020) in China, accorhotels in Paris, France Arena (2019), Incheon Munhak Stadium (2018) in Incheon, South Korea, Beijing National Stadium in Beijing, China (2017) and Staples Center (2016) in Los Angeles, USA.
