Riot Games will soon start listening to voice chat to reduce toxicity in Valorant, the popular competitive FPS game. This will be achieved by recording voice communications at Valorant’s online matches, which will then be evaluated if a report comes in that points to some sort of toxic behavior.
In fact, listening to voice chat was first announced in February in an official blog post on reducing toxicity, in a section devoted to future steps.
On July 13, the first steps of the sound evaluation system will be taken in North America.
When this system, which is still in beta, is released globally; the voices of players reported for harassment, swearing or hate speech will be listened to by the teams. If deemed appropriate, an in-game penalty will be imposed.
Additionally, Riot Games’ voice chat listening feature will not be available for League of Legends.
