Gaming platform Roblox is facing a $200 million fine in a new lawsuit filed by The National Music Publishers’ Association.
As reported by Variety, the lawsuit accuses Roblox of “illegally” using songs by popular artists on the platform without the permission of copyright holders. The NMPA claims that pieces by artists such as Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran and The Rolling Stones require compensation for their use within Roblox.
In the filing, NMPA president David Israelte said the platform “made hundreds of millions of dollars by taking advantage of a lack of understanding of young people’s copyright, asking users to pay every time they upload music to the platform.”
The lawsuit seeks compensation for damages caused by “Roblox’s use of music as best he wished without proper licenses.”
