Nagoshi first joined SEGA in 1989 and worked on dozens of games, from Daytona to Virtua Fighter to F-Zero GX. Toshihiro Nagoshi, who also has one of the biggest contributors to yakuza games, one of the company’s most blockbuster series, is leaving SEGA after eight main Yakuza games and two Judgment games, an adaptation series set in the same universe as the Yakuza series. It seems that we will now see Nagoshi, who has come to prominence in public as head of SEGA’s Ryu Ga Gotoku studio, on the Chinese side.
Bloombergnotes that a final contract has not yet been signed and Nagoshi has work to complete. NetEase, which wants Nagoshi to build a new team and make new games, wants to face Tencent again as a firm competitor, having recently taken drasic steps in the gaming world (such as their acquisition of Riot Games, the creator of League of Legends).
