A sequel to Half Life Alyx appears to have been leaked by Valve, according to reports. Rumors have surfaced online about an improved and even expanded version of Alyx, the franchise’s representative in VR and its last game ever released. In a new video, data miner and reporter Tyler McVicker talks about a new VR project known as the Citadel.
Is the Half Life Alyx sequel coming? Valve’s love of VR
In the new video, Tyler McVicker outlines recent changes to the Valve VR project, according to another gaming rumor known as Citadel. The new code is related to Half-Life VR and outlinesthe state of hand joints and grenade mechanics that “seem to be adding to the HLVR formula for some unknown reason” . it is also marked as “HLVR/HLX“. You can watch the video right below.
McVicker says HLX is a brand new code name “based on the framework originally built on Half Life Alyx,” but the report is a continuation of the original Half Life VR. Based on this information, he said, “Valve seems to have two virtual reality teams moving under its roof at the same time.” One is developing the frequently rumored Half Life Citadeland the other is developing HLX. McVicker claims the project “should be the successor to Half Life Alyx.” Because the new project is, in its opinion, “only the mechanics of Half Life Alyx have been improved, expanded and replicated”. Water physics, enemy types and dynamic weather continue to outline a series of recently released files on one or both of these projects, including lighting.
Valve has not made an official announcement about a potential sequel to Half Life Alyx or anything. It’s also possible that the development work uncovered by McVicker won’t do anything. Therefore, it is worth approaching the issue with “a handful of salts” instead of considering it an official announcement. However, the recent revelations from Robin Walker — who is a key figure in the Half-Life series — seem very promising when combined with this information.
