As we know, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Editionwill be released on November 11, 2021. This new version of the game will be available as a free update to all owners of the Special Edition available on the PC. According tothe developer of Skyrim Script Extender (SKSE), one of the popular modes, the game’s modes are in trouble.
New version of Skyrim could complicate mode support
Extrwi, the developer of SKSE; “As part of the Anniversary Edition update, Bethesda decided to switch from Visual Studio 2015 to Visual Studio 2019, the compiler used to create the 64-bit version of the game. This changes the course of the game in such a way that mod developers reorganize codes and functions. Fortunately, class arrangements are unlikely to change.”
The mod developer also concluded that anyone who writes a native code plugin must do at least some extra work to support anniversary edition. Theoretically, the game’s HD texture packs will continue to be compatible with anniversary edition; but for the majority of other modes we will not be able to say the same. As said, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition will not be a separate product. Therefore, owners of the Special Edition version should disable automatic updates if they do not want to upgrade their game. Whether Steam will offer the option to switch between versions is among the unknown factors.
