Sony officially announced the acquisition of the Housemarque studio in a statement. Sony, which has made a major breakthrough in studio acquisitions in recent years and has also acquired some of its Epic Games shares, will apparently continue similar strides to further strengthen its hand on the gaming side. Sony, which combines its incorporated companies under the umbrella of Playstation Studios, announced that its Housemarque studio has also officially joined the ranks of Playstation.
Sony buys Returnal maker Housemarque studio
In fact, we can already explain for the Housemarque studio in the ranks of Playstation for a long time. Although they developed some games on mobile and other platforms, the Housemarque studio was one of the companies that was mostly playstation-oriented and close to Sony. The company came up with games exclusively for Super Stardust, Resogun, Dead Nation, Alienation, Matterfall and finally Returnal and Playstation consoles. After the scores and accolades received with Returnal, we can also say that the company had one of the best periods of the company, which was founded in 1996.
It can also be said that this period gained new momentum with the acquisition of the company by Sony. Ilari Kuittinen, one of the founders and directors of the Housemarque studio through the Playstation Blog page, has made the following statements regarding the acquisition process.
“Today is a big day for Housemarque, which has been developing games for over 26 years. Our strong partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment began with Super Stardust HD on PS3, and since then we’ve made arcade-inspired games for all PlayStation platforms. With our latest game, Returnal, our biggest step into third-person action games has reinforced our voice and brand in the industry by providing unique and quality player experiences.
We are so excited to finally join the PlayStation Studios family! This will be an indication that we will continue to try new narrative delivery methods and push the boundaries of this modern art form, while giving our studio a clear future and a stable opportunity to continue to offer game-centric approaches. This also means that as an official member of the PlayStation family, we will expand the growing industrial center in Helsinki and secure the legacy of the oldest gaming studio in Finland.
Finally, what does this mean for our fans? At Housemarque, we’re actors. We are also not recognized for being afraid to run our own course and try new combinations. With the support of SIE and the studio family that supports us, we can truly grow our place in the industry and show what Housemarque can create without any limitations. We look forward to showing everyone what will happen in the coming years and hope to bring more lasting memories and exciting games for the next quarter of a century and beyond.”
