Earlier this year, Square Enix sold its Western studios such as Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics to Embracer Group for $300 million. Following this, rumors appeared that Sony was preparing to buy Square Enix. Now, a new statement from Eidos Montreal founder Stephane D’Astous suggests that Sony is still interested in buying Square Enix Tokyo.
Speaking to GamesIndustry us recently, D’Astous noted that the IPs owned by both Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics are remarkable. Despite the fact that so many IPs are available, he also expressed his feelings about studios and IPs being sold for a small amount.
D’Astous, on the other hand, also spoke about the long-standing rumors, saying: “Yes, I have heard various rumors too. Sony seems to be really interested in Square Enix Tokyo. But he’s not interested in the rest of the studios outside of Tokyo.”
Apart from all these developments, Sony has not officially announced the acquisition of Square Enix. At the moment, Sony is still interested in Square Enix.
