The State of Play broadcast, which was held with game announcements from Japanese companies, was the scene of several new productions. One of them was Valkyrie Elysium, developed by Soleil Ltd.
Square Enix’s Valkyrie Elysium announced
The action RPG-based production will feature “fast-paced combat using a variety of weapons”, as well as magic abilities. Square Enix will use the features of past Valkyrie games, such as finishing moves and combinations, along with a brand new real-time action combat system that rewards both quick reactions and strategic thinking.
Valkyrie Elysium appeared in a fantasy world with a trailer showing exploration and struggles, as well as a teaser on what her story might require. “The Valkyrie series depicts the end of humanity and its encounters with gods through a unique world inspired by Scandinavian mythology,” a post on the PlayStation blog says.
Developed by Soleil Ltd, who we know from Samurai Jack, the music is prepared by composer Motoi Sakuraba, known for dark souls. The character was designed by CyDesignation NieR Re[in]carnation designers, courtesy of Yuya Nagai.
Valkyrie Elysium doesn’t seem to be very directly connected to other Valkyrie games, as playStation describes it in a blog post as “a brand new independent adventure.”
