Google has announced that its cloud service Stadia will be discontinued on January 18, 2023. All hardware purchases made through the Google Store and all game and add-on content purchases made through Stadia will be refunded until mid-January 2023.
In a blog post, Stadia vice president Phil Harrison said: “While Stadia’s approach to cloud gaming for consumers is built on a strong technology foundation, we have not received the attention we expected from users. That’s why we have taken a difficult decision to end our Stadia service.”
Harrison continued, “The core technology that powers Stadia has proven itself and gone beyond gaming. We want to adapt this technology to technologies such as YouTube, Google Play and Augmented Reality (AR). We are deeply committed to gaming. We will continue to invest in new tools, technologies and platforms.”
