Apart from the Steam discount periods, where all games are sold at advantageous prices, it has been announced that some changes will be made to the company’s policies, including discounts that come to the games at other times. These new rules, which will come into force after March, also include important provisions.
Steam is making some changes to its discount rules
Valve provided information about the new Steam discount rules in a statement to game distributors and individual developers. The most notable rule was that the discount rate could no longer be less than 10% and no more than 90%. Steam also urged these new rules to block distributors who inflate prices during the discount period and those who want to feature some versions using the Steam algorithm.
Some of the changes made are as follows;
- You can apply a launch discount, but you can’t offer any more discounts for 28 days when your launch discount ends.
- It is not possible to discount your product for 28 days following the price increase in any currency.
- Discounts cannot be made within 28 days of your previous discount, except for seasonal events throughout Steam.
- Discounts for seasonal discount events cannot be made within 28 days of publishing your title, within 28 days of the end of your launch discount, or within 28 days of a price increase in any currency.
- You can’t change your price while a promotion is currently live or scheduled for later.
- A product cannot be discounted more than 90% or less than 10%.
- Special discounts cannot last longer than two weeks or less than 1 day.
