In 2019, No More Heroes creator Suda51 and Deadly Premonition creator Swery65 told IGN Japan that they wanted to make a horror game called Hotel Barcelona, which thrilled fans. The pair were considering Devolver Digital as publishers for the game, which is said to be being developed on a budget of $1 million, but we didn’t see any improvement in that either.
Hotel Barcelona will include multiple timelines, its main protagonist will be “100% evil”, and it will be about people being murdered at the hotel that also gave the game its name.
However, the fact that there has been no information about the game for two years raises the question of whether the plans have been cancelled. Suda clarified the situation in a Reddit AMA interview earlier today and said the collaboration would happen one day.
“I contact Swery65 at least once every two or three months to talk about how to implement Hotel Barcelona, even during COVID. Everything is looking at timing,” Suda said, adding that they have not yet started developing the game.
Water is currently working on No More Heroes 3, which will be released in August, while Swery has gone quiet following last year’s Deadly Premonition 2.
