A cartridge from Nintendo’s classic video game “Super Mario 64” set a world record Sunday and sold at auction for $1.56 million. The last record set was the April sale of the Super Mario Bros. cartridge in 1986, which sold for about $660,000.
Retro video games have become increasingly popular among nostalgic collectors in recent years, increasing the prices of old-fashioned consoles and cartridges at auctions. Last year saw record prices not only for video games, but also for digital collections known as Pokemon cards and NFT’s (Fungible Tokens).
