In an interview with GamesIndustry, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick explained that it is inconvenient for AAA games to be included in first-day subscription services.
Zelnick said: “We have supported a variety of subscription services and are delighted to do so. But there are some inconvenient situations. This means that large-scale games are included in first-day subscription services.
Incorporating games into service on the first day is not a good practice. We do not support this move. I think Sony agrees with us. I explained it to them. There should always be a crossroads between what the consumer wants and what the publisher can do. We cannot afford that the economically unreasonable situation will turn our business upside down.
On the other hand, old and long-standing games can be included in this service. If the prices of these games have been reduced in the process, it may make economic sense to offer them on the subscription service.”
In addition, Zelnick said that their current attitudes will not always remain the same, and that in the future, their attitudes will also differ depending on the change of subscription systems.
Zelnick concluded: “This company doesn’t work according to the opinions of a single person, including me. We will support subscription services that arise or change as a logical system. If that’s where the players want to be, we’ll be there.”
