The concept of loot box, which has become one of the indispensable details of our lives in recent years, seems to get Take-Two in trouble. Some people who found the route of the NBA 2K series particularly problematic in recent years decided to file a lawsuit against the game’s distributor, Take-Two.
The case will be heard in the US state of Illinois, Bloomberg reported. The application, filed earlier in the year, claimed Take-Two had engaged in “unfair, misleading and illegal practices.” These claims are targeted by loot box content from the NBA 2K series.
The plaintiffs say Take-Two made players forget the financial structure of these loot boxes. So we can say that the NBA 2K series allegedly made players forget the reality of the concept of “money”. That’s why the plaintiffs are seeking $5 million in damages.
Especially in recent years, incidents have increased in which our younger friends are tricked with loot boxes or virtual currencies. We know a lot of families are reacting to this situation. But the NBA 2K series has a total revenue stream of $378.6 million for Take-Two, according to Statista data. In short, $5 million in damages looks like a drop of water in the ocean.
