The Tencent-owned store WeGame app will be shut down in September.
As reported by the South China Morning Post, Tencent stopped accepting new users for the app on Tuesday, July 5, and it will no longer be available for download starting July 15.
The app will then shut down on September 8, Tencent said, adding that this was due to “changes in business development strategy” and that some of the app’s functionality would be transferred to the PC version of WeGame.
WeGame was first released in 2007 as the Tencent Games Platform. Tencent began planning for WeGame’s global launch around 2018, just after Valve announced that Steam would be released in China.
WeGame X, the international version of the store, was released in April 2019.
