The Dungeons of Moria, also known as Moria, was inspired by Tolkien’s famous The Lord of the Rings novel and was considered one of the first roguelike games along with Hack and Larn. Moria was even the first roguelike to include a city section.
Moria, who inspired many of the games after him, was also the basis of Angband and was one of the games that inspired Blizzard’s famous game Diablo during the design phase. David Brevik, one of Diablo’s creators, said in a 2006 interview that Diablo;s concept “became clear in his head while playing Moria/Angband, the ASCII game he had been sick of in college.”
Robert Alan Koeneke, the creator of this important game, has died at the age of 64.
Moria, and especially Angband, were once among the most played and favorite games, so I was saddened by this news.
If you say what is this Moria, let me add that you can download it from the Umoria site and play it.
