[We’re trying to introduce the indie games that are on our watch list in our waiting Indie column and are looking forward to them in five interesting articles.]
Broken Roads, the debut game from Australian game studio Drop Bear Bytes, is an isometric role-playing game that aims to introduce players to Australian culture and looks pretty good. Let’s see the theme of the game that has been on our watch list for a long time, and will you like it?
> Broken Roads will be a production set in Australia and gets all its material from the culture of this continent. So much so that the person who voiced the first trailer for the game is Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung, an elderly, living legend, Uncle Jack Charles, one of the greatest national values in the country. He’s also the founder of the country’s first Aboriginal theatre. That’s the level of authenticity broken roads will have.
> Just as one of disco Elysium’s most unique features is the Thought Cabinet, Broken Sword will offer an equally compelling concept, the Moral Compass. Our decisions and behaviors will bring us closer to the Utilitarian, Humanist, Machiavellian or Nihilistic psychological elements and we will gain various abilities within this quadruple compass. For example, killing enemy looters will bring your tendency to nihilistic philosophy 15 degrees, but we may also be prone to multiple philosophies at the same time.
> Broken Roads is a game that stands out at first glance with its spectacular graphics and uses the isometric camera angle extremely successfully. Here I will again give the example of Disco Elysium, equally successful visuals will appear in Broken Roads. And the green circle underneath the selected character is very familiar, isn’t it?
> In the gigantic post-apocalyptic world of Broken Roads, we can hang out alone if we want, but those who say help can’t be bad will be able to play the game in groups like a classic RSO. There will be a maximum of 5 people in our group, and the personalities of these characters will also influence the dialogues we will encounter.
> Battles in the game will take place in a turn-based, tactical way. So far we have only seen a very short battle scene in the videos released, but even this showed us that there will be Fallout/Wasteland-style AP-based battles in the game. Already, our characters carry rifles on their backs, abilities such as Aiming, Focus, grenades, and more or less give an idea of the way the game is fought.
