[We’re trying to introduce the indie games that are on our watch list in our waiting Indie column and are looking forward to them in five interesting articles.]
Inspired by 90s classics such as Heroes of Might and Magic III, Songs of Conquest is set to win over players who miss this genre. We will summarize to you what we know about this game, which has already managed to build a close following:
Look at a detail that was found in every Turn-Based Strategy around the corner in the > 90s, and today it’s forgotten when you say, “Let’s add a little more RUPOs, we’ll squeeze in a side mission or something.” (I’m telling you, King’s Bounty 2) To go around collecting resources, deciding which buildings to build in your kingdom, getting new soldiers and bonuses from these buildings… These are important values that have always been forgotten but I’m very happy to see you coming back.
> One of our first picks in Songs of Conquest will be between four different factions. Arleon is a branch of a disbanded kingdom of barons who are trying to regain their power; Barya is a state of independent traders freed from the chains of the kingdom; Rana is a reptile race whose peoples have been reunited, scattered by a mysterious sorcerer. Finally, the Loth Baronship is a mystical baronship intent on reuniting with the glory of imperial times, even the dead, if necessary.
> I guess it’s no surprise that our heroes’ expertise is in this direction when the game’s most intense inspiration is Heroes of Might and Magic. Trust the strength of your wrist, or be one of the wizards mentioned as “Wielder” in the game, how you develop your hero will also determine the way you play. Oh, of course, it’s also possible to make a character who understands a little bit of that if you want…
> E one of the must-have features of this genre is the map editor. Thanks to this editor, which is also used by the producers themselves, you will be able to influence the scenes that trigger in-game events, the dialogues you write yourself, what music is playing and even the weather.
> Since we’re creating our own maps, shouldn’t we just sit them down and play with our friends? StS games aren’t ideal for long-distance gaming, but they’re also perfect for crashing and playing alone. There may be days when we’ll be saying, “Oh, when’s morning?”
