The outlines of the story have already been written for a potential third play in The Last of Us series. Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann has made new statements for The Last of Us 3. The new announcement, which will both delight fans and strain their patience, came during a podcast of Script Apart.
The Last of Us 3 storylines are ready, but not yet developed
Druckmann explained that a draft detailing what happened after the second game already exists and that he wants to see it turned into a game one day. It seems the first step for The Last of Us 3 has already been taken, but due to the complex situation the studio is currently in, I don’t think we’ll see it anytime soon.
“I don’t know how much I want to explain,” Druckmann said. “[Co-writer Halley Gross] has written a draft for a story we haven’t done yet, but I hope one day he can see the light of day.”

According to Druckmann, the draft addresses events that will take place after the second game. Neil Druckmann also suggested that the studio is currently in the process of deciding which project to work on.
“Once we’ve finished one of our big titles, whether it’s The Last of Us 3, something new, or an old series we want to go back to, we take a long time to explore different ideas,” he explained.
Naughty Dog is currently working on the PlayStation 5 version of The Last of Us’s first game, according to a Bloomberg report released in recent weeks.
Following its release, TLOU Part II sales sold four million copies worldwide in three days, making it the fastest-selling PS4 game to date. It is also worth noting that last year it stood out from a fierce competition with very successful PS4 special games. Among them were games like Ghost of Tsushima, which had really good sales success.
Naughty Dog’s co-president said this month that the Last of Us studio is still struggling to fully implement a multi-project development strategy.
