Anthony Vaccaro, an environmental designer at Naughty Dog, said on Twitter that The Last of Us Part 1, which has been completed and reached gold status, does not require any crunches.
Vaccaro, who has worked at Naughty Dog since 2010 and has a name in games such as Uncharted 3, The Last of Us, Uncharted 4, Uncharted: Lost Legacy and The Last of Us: Part 2, says:
“It’s the first time in my 13-year career in multiple studios that we didn’t have to do crunches to finish a game. It feels good, it feels so good. Especially if we consider that we have reached the same quality bar as TLOU2. We have more work to do, but I’m proud of the big changes that have been made to make the studio healthier.”
The phenomenon of working overtime for weeks and sometimes months to get a game to the set date is called crunch, and this is considered one of the biggest problems of the gaming industry. In recent years, Naughty Dog has published articles that this is a big problem, and co-chair Neil Druckmann has said they will do their best to solve it.
Naughty Dog will be widely unveiling The Last of Us Part 1 Remake in the coming weeks.
The game will be released for PS5 on September 2, while the release date for PC is a later time.
