Last week, various game developers and publishers began to stop selling their games in Russia. Microsoft and Electronic Arts participated in this sanction, which we saw first from Bloober Team and CD Projekt.
The list continues to expand with new names. Finally, Activision Blizzard president and COO Daniel Alegre announced that Activision Blizzard games will not be sold in Russia as long as the fighting continues. Aleghre also announced that they will donate twice as much as all the donations made by their employees.
Epic Games said on Twitter that “we are stopping our gaming relationship with Russia in the face of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.” Of course, even if the sales end, this will not prevent Russian players from playing the games they have, otherwise it would be absurd anyway.
Russia is one of the most important markets in the world in terms of video games. It ranks 8th in the world and annual revenue from this market is about $3 billion.
