When the first Assassin’s Creed game came out, gaming technologies weren’t as advanced as they are today, that’s already a fact, isn’t it? But 15 years later, we understand this even better when a developer tells us how the horses in the game were actually developed. The horses in the first game of the Assassin’s Creed series are made of human skeletons that are bent and bent.
The horses in the first game of the Assassin’s Creed series were apparently human.
In fact, what needs to be appreciated here is that horses made of bent and bent human skeletons behave “like horses” very close to reality. At the same time, the non-existent arm of the Malik character in the first game was actually there. Because their budget wasn’t enough to design a special skeleton for him. Charles Randall, who worked on the development team of the first game, shared the following statements on Twitter:
“In Assassin’s Creed, we didn’t have the budget for a special skeleton or net for Malik, so his missing arm has actually gone in. If you manage to get the camera into it, you’ll see a small, wrinkled arm inside your biceps.
Also, the horses in AC1 consisted only of a crooked human skeleton. Because the tools we had only worked with bipeds on the 3DS Max.”
Here is the possibility created from impossibilities. Randall must have shared this post to enable today’s game developers and to expose the impossibilities of his time. Since they didn’t have the budget to design extra skeletons for the horses in the game or Malik’s character model, they made the most of the possibilities they had. Randall also congratulates the animators who contributed.

Gamedev hack: In Assassin’s Creed, we didn’t have budget for a custom skeleton or mesh for Malik, so his “missing arm” is just inside out. I assume if you could get the camera to clip into him you’d see a tiny little scrunched up arm inside the bicep. pic.twitter.com/DJW7RsOOXM
