Sweden-based firm Thunderful Games has announced a deal to acquire the studio Jumpship, the developer of the story-driven adventure game Somerville. The deal, which is expected to be completed today, will be the 10th studio acquisition since Anders Maiqvist took over as CEO.
The Jumpship team, which will be included within Thunderful Games, will continue to be an independent team and develop world-class story-driven games.
Thunderful Games continues studio acquisitions
Founded in 2017 by Chris Olsen with former CEO and co-founder of Playdead Dino Patti, Jumpship is now part of Thunderful Games. Following the acquisition, Patti will remain with Jumpship and assume the role of a new strategic advisor for Thunderful Games.
Dino Patti, co-founder and executive producer of Jumpship, said of the acquisition: “This partnership with Thunderful will open up new opportunities for us. So we are very satisfied. I’ve known Agostino (chief game officer of Thunderful Games) for a very long time, and we’ve built a strong relationship of trust between us. With this agreement, we will go even further.”
Somerville, the story-driven adventure game offered to players by Jumpship, on the other hand, was released today (November 15) for PC through Xbox Series, Xbox One and Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store. The game is also available on the Xbox Game Pass service.
