Tim Schafer, one of the most creative names in the video game world, recently won the Andrew Yoon Legend award at the New York Videogame Critics awards. This award is given annually to a person who brings extraordinary success and innovation to the sector, and this year it was Schafer who was awarded this award. Psychonauts 2 also won Game of the Year at the same ceremony.
Schafer , who interviewed IGN after the award, recently shared his views on the transformation of many video game series into movies or series.
Schafer, who says he’s often received offers from Hollywood, is completely cool:
They often come to us and ask, “Hey, can we turn this into a movie?” What I really care about, what I don’t like to do and what I find interesting is the games themselves. Offers like this keep coming in, but nothing’s turned out to be concrete. Thanks to Hollywood, I get plenty of free food,” Schafer says of Psychonauts, “games are much cooler than movies or tv shows.”
Duncan Jones, warcraft’s director, wanted to film Full Throttle, and he even wrote the script. Although Schafer said he read the script, Jones did a good job and “you can tell he’s really playing the game and knows everything about it,” he hasn’t really opened the door here either.
“It would have been fun to work with Duncan, but L.A. and Hollywood, you know, they’re nothing but a lunch vortex,” he said, referring to dinner meetings.
